The Grade A Cider Trustmark is owned and managed by a privately-owned company based in Nova Scotia, Canada. The Trustmark was established in 2019 and is the brainchild of the owner of Bulwark Craft Ciders.
He decided to create the Trustmark after spending seven years gathering information on various cider markets and production methods around the world and realizing that most markets he visited suffered from the same lack of proper cider standards and regulations. The result of which has led to the creation of a flawed cider category dominated by a few large producers where everything goes. They sell so called ciders that are more often than not simply sugary alcopops or fermented sugar beverages.
The aim of the Trustmark is to help reverse this trend. First, by making consumers aware of the different ways to make ciders. Second, by raising the red flag with regard to the lack of standards and regulations in the category. And third, by pushing for the Trustmark to become the benchmark of the cider category where meaningful and measurable criteria such as real apple juice content and the production method used are taken into account.
